My first post! Haha! Well if your reading this right now and don’t really know me, than let me welcome you to my life and what I am all about. I am on the 9 year plan of college, working on my final semester at Cal State Fullerton with a major in International Business class of 2013 baby! Ya I know 9 years is A LOT of years to have been putting up with school right? No I kidd, actually it has alot to do with what I have been through in my life and why at the age of 26 I will finally graduate from college with a bachelor’s degree. My family comes from Bolivia, a beautiful country in South America; and as we Bolivians like to say the heart of South America. Bolivia is a very underrated country that contains many beautiful natural landscapes, music, food, culture to name a few. Both my parents met in France, as they were both musicians traveling in Europe. Back in the 70s there was a very large community of musicians that left Bolivia and surrounding countries to seek musical contracts with European festivals, companies, and events. I was born in Paris, France and the first 3 years of my life I spent travelling with my parents throughout Europe. My parents had already been living in Europe for around 15 years before I was introduced to the band. At age 4 we came to California for vacation to visit my uncles, and ended up staying here now for the past 22 years! Man time flew by really fast! Growing up in California it has been a very challenging struggle. Since the age of 6 I was involved in the family business which was importing goods from South America. We would travel frequently to local and nationwide state fairs, conventions, and street fairs selling our products. This experience is what sparked my business skills, and helped shape my mind on creating businesses of my own from scratch. Entering college, we were hit with a huge economic crisis and I had no other choice but to drop out of college the second semester of my first year. We had lost our business, and later on lost our house due to foreclosure. I decided to go into the real estate business in order to help my parents pay the bills and help bring us out of this horrible nightmare. I was introduced to the financial industry I had ZERO experience in financing and only brought to the table sales and business skills. Well that was enough for my manager at the time who now runs his own music label to give me the job as a sales executive. I was working on 8-9 hour days of constant cold calling prospects to either refinance or buy a home and from the 100+ calls I would make in one day I would maybe if I was lucky get two secure leads to move forward and set an appointment to discuss further. After about 5 years of constant work in the financial industry I decided I could once again gradually work my way back into finishing college. A lot of times I ask myself why aren’t I already a manager at a big corporation or why didn’t I start my business a long time ago, but I finally understand the purpose of my life. It was to experience all these downfalls, obstacles, and challenges in order to appreciate what I have, and to continue to strive for a better life. I have always wanted to be an Entrepreneurship and be my OWN boss but never really thought about WHY I had the need to. Entrepreneurship (running your own business) comes with constant struggles, obstacles, and challenges which all make the process more entertaining and worth the struggle from what I experienced with my family’s business. That is the key thing I would say I now understand why I was put in the positions I was growing up and made the choices I did. My first year of transferring to Cal State Fullerton from a community college, I decided to start a small business of selling animal balloons which was called Gazebo Petz. By the time I decided to enter the market it was already dying down and the craze of the animal balloons was fading which I later shut down the business. Later on I decided to move onto the travel industry (which in another post I will discuss my passion for traveling) and open up an online travel agency goMonkeyz, which I set up to help travelers find the lowest fares and help them book cheap travels, I still operate this business from time to time when I get requests from friends or family.
MY NEXT STEP:
I am now working on a new project, a project which I take great pride in and have taken into account many passions of mine and combined them all into one! Music, Dancing, and dating. All which I have learned a great deal about and continue to…
Our beta site is now up and running:
http://www.musemelody.com
A website where you can meet other singles who share the same interest in music, and dance styles.
I can say that this is only the beginning of my next step, and I would like to thank those who continue to show some love and support.
Let me know if you have any suggestions for the site!
I leave you with this beautiful and incredible picture of the Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia, one of Bolivia’s greatest landscapes. A flat salt land which can be seen from space!
Till next time.
Silvestre
